27 Dresses Starring Katherine Heigl Movie Review

Anyone who knows me will know that I’m a huge fan of ‘Chic Flicks’ or Romantic Comedies so it surprises me how much I actually disliked 27 Dresses. Keep reading after the jump for my honest and rather brutal review of this new movie…

Katherine Heigl (Yep, Izzy from Grey’s Anatomy) stars alongside James Marsden in what looks upon first glance to be a funny and charming romantic comedy. However, when I went to see it recently I was disappointed to learn that the comedy seemed to be missing and the romance was all just a bit over rated. Maybe I have just become bitter and twisted with my 26th birthday vastly approaching but I’m pretty sure this movie actually sucks.

Now I’m a fan of Katherine Heigl, don’t get me wrong. She’s great in Grey’s Anatomy and actually played one of my favourite characters, but the comedy that she was able to bring to that show seemed lost and almost non existent in 27 dresses.

Heigl plays Jane, obsessed with weddings she has been bridesmaid at 27 of them and keeps the dresses hung in her wardrobe. Madly in love with her boss, but too afraid to tell him how she feels Jane is devastated when her sister turns her attention to him and the two end up falling for eachother. James Marsden (Enchanted/Hairspray) plays a likeable journalist (who cry’s at weddings) but even his attempts to salvage something out of this movie go astray as he winds up stuck in the middle of a movie that just can’t be saved. Katherine Heigl as Jane lacks any kind of attitude or self confidence and spends most of her time sulking about the fact that her sister seems to have bagged her man rather than getting out there and actually doing something about it. Maybe if she had done so, and sooner then the movie would have had a more upbeat kind of feel to it rather than just dragging along for the first hour or so.
