Alcatraz is the latest hit US drama produced by JJ Abrams (Lost, Star Trek, Super 8) and hits UKTV channel Watch again Tomorrow; Tuesday at 9. America’s most notorious and infamous prison inmates are back, and seeking revenge…

Episode 1:
The intense Alcatraz opener sees young San Francisco Police Department detective Rebecca Madsen (Sarah Jones) assigned to a grisly homicide case, a single fingerprint leading her to a shocking suspect: Jack Sylvane (Jeffrey Pierce), an Alcatraz inmate who died over 30 years ago.

With both her grandfather and surrogate uncle, Ray Archer (Robert Forster), once guards of the prison — Madsen’s interest is immediately piqued, and once the enigmatic, knows-everything-but-tells-nothing government agent Emerson Hauser (Sam Neill) tries to impede her investigation, she’s doggedly committed.

Madsen turns to Alcatraz expert and comic book enthusiast Dr. Diego “Doc” Soto (Jorge Garcia) to piece together the inexplicable sequence of events. The two discover that Sylvane is not only alive, but he’s loose on the streets of San Francisco, exacting decades-old revenge and leaving bodies in his wake. And, strangely, he hasn’t aged a day since 1963.

Will detective Madsen and Soto team with Hauser and his technician, Lucy Banerjee (Parminder Nagra) in an attempt to stop Sylvane’s killing?

Smash hit TV series True Blood’s vampires have proven ‘too rude for the tube’ and been driven from the comforting darkness of London’s underground to take refuge in phone boxes across the capital. 

 
HBO’s controversial new ‘VILF’ poster campaign to launch the third season DVD and Blu-ray release on 23 May has been banned by the tube for its sexual connotations. However, the vampires are not without a haven as the campaign has made it onto phone boxes across London from today.

 
Inspiration for the posters has been drawn from the sexiest and most addictive series’ cast of characters who fans have dubbed VILF’s (Vampire I’d Like to…), proving MILF’s and DILF’s are so 2010.

The reception of the posters follows the launch of a website www.vilf.co.uk where Fangbangers across the UK can now vote for their favourite blood-suckers, whether it’s the smouldering stare and whispy voice of Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), piercing blue eyes/blonde hair and sexy muscles of Eric Northman (Alexander Skarsgård), the fiery, unrestrained redhead Jessica Hamby (Deborah Ann Woll) or the alluring yet ruthless Pam De Beaufort (Kristin Bauer). While previous series have required ANTM hopefuls to stand over 5’7”, series 13 will require all contestants to be 5’7” or shorter.

Banks leads the panel of judges for Season 13, comprised of leading fashion industry experts, photographer Nigel Barker, modelling guru and stylist Jay Manuel and runway expert Miss J, who closely evaluate the progress of the models to narrow the field each week. This series the panel welcome a renowned weekly fashonista guest judge to help critic the eager next top models.

It is pretty hard to list our all time top favourite films because I find there are so many great films out there however I have made a list of my must see Christmas films that will offer something for all ages, whether you are a young child, a teenager or an adult to get you in the Christmas spirit.

Christmas with the Kranks (Dir Joe Roth: 2004)

“NO HO HO”

Imagine a year without Christmas. No crowded malls, no last minute dash to get gifts and no unwanted presents. That’s just what Luther (Tim Allen) and Nora Krank (Jamie Lee Curtis) plan on doing much to the dismay of their neighbors. That is until their only daughter Blair announces on Christmas Eve that she is coming home for Christmas and Luther and Nora scramble to find their Christmas spirit and organize a celebration.

At first it appears that the true meaning of Christmas is somewhere lost; however, the story line portrays a loving family along with neighborly love. It also weaves in selflessness and a community that is bound together in spirit and love. Even though Luther becomes self indulged; his friends and neighbors show forgiveness.

Despite not been the best Christmas film out there I found it to be a light hearted and hilarious fun comedy.

The Holiday (Dir Nancy Meyers 2006)

Two beautiful women, Amanda (Cameron Diaz) and Iris Simpkins (Kate Winslet) find themselves at the end of failed relationships just before Christmas. Both women from opposite sides of the world agree to a home exchange for the holiday period. Both women find the last thing they want or even expect: romance.
There haven’t been that many decent romantic comedies with a holiday theme in recent years, so when one comes along that’s adorable, entertaining, and requires absolutely no brain power to enjoy, it’s tough to pass it up.
It is a sweet romantic comedy and perfect if you want to see something sweet and bubbly and full of fun festiveness.

National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation (Dir: Jeremiah S. Chechik 1989)

The Griswold family has yet another family adventure from hell and this movie has all the clichés. Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) desperately wants to give his family the greatest Christmas ever, but things never run smoothly for him, his wife Ellen and their two kids.
Things go from bad to worse when some unannounced guests turn up, but Clark somehow manages to keep going knowing that his Christmas bonus is due soon.
This film has become a bit of a family favourite in my family, a sort of Christmas tradition and no matter how many times I see this film, I still find it funny.
Although it is full of all the old clichés it somehow manages to still be amusing.
It is the ultimate family holiday film, a definite must see that all the family will enjoy.

Home Alone (Dir: Chris Columbus 1990)

You just can’t have Christmas without watching John Hughes classic film Home Alone.  Christmas just wouldn’t be the same.
Kevin and his family are destined to spend Christmas with the family in Paris, a trip that doesn’t appeal to Kevin.
In fact the eight year old wishes his family would disappear; his wish comes true when the following morning the family leave in a hurry for the airport without him.
At first he seems to enjoy the freedom of been home alone, jumping on his parents bed and stuffing his face with pizza. Then, Kevin discovers that 2 burglars, Harry and Marv plan to rob his house on Christmas Eve. Kevin acts quickly, which is when all the fun begins by wiring his own house with makeshift booby traps to stop the burglars and to bring them to justice.

It is hilarious to see how an eight year old would take on two some what experienced burglars.
The film a festive tale, full of fun and laughter told from a disgruntled child’s perspective.
A definite must see.

Elf (Dir Jon Favreau 2003)

Elf is a combination of classic Christmas tales and tells the tale of young orphaned baby who climbs into Santa’s (Edward Asner) sack and is raised as an elf at The North Pole at Santa’s workshop.

As he grows he realises that he is different from the other elves and discovers that his biological Father (James Caan) lives in New York City.
With his child like innocence, Buddy (Will Farrell) sets out on a long journey to find his father only to find his dreams of a sugar plum family reunion turn sour when he meets his Scrooge- like book editor father and his stepbrother (Daniel Tay) Buddy can’t understand why his new family and the people of New York City have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. He fights hard to bring back the Christmas spirit and hopefully find some love from family and friends for the first time in his life.

It is cute, wacky Christmas film filled with a lot of fun and Christmas spirit.

If you are looking for an all round family film to keep the kids entertained then Elf ticks all the boxes.

Last night saw the start of a brand new series of the fantastic ‘I’m a celebrity, get me out of here!’ and we’re so happy that this year we actually recognise all of the celebs taking part. This is not normal…

Things got off to a great start with Samantha Fox and Gino D’Acampo taking on the first challenge: a swim to an island, on which they had to face some of the first challenges to earn food and beds for their fellow campmates. Samantha Fox surprised me with her willingness to get stuck in and her encouragement for Gino showed that she might not be quite as ‘car crash TV’ as we’d first expected! Still, it’s early days yet…

Whilst some of the celebs made their way to camp in the usual way (diving head first from a plane of course) I actually found it more interesting watching the ones who went in on horseback this year, the shot of them all wading through the water on their horses (who were clearly ready to bolt at any second!) was brilliant, Jimmy also unfortunately had a horse who didn’t want to move anywhere which was hilarious.

There seemed to be some great camaraderie between this bunch already, with Stuart on hand to help everyone out and Camilla coming across as being so friendly and down to earth that I think everyone will warm to her instantly in camp. Two of our faves so far!

Here’s our initial thoughts on each individual celebrity, let’s see if they change as the show goes on:

Justin Ryan – Funny, could get annoying as the series progresses but loving him so far!
Colin McAllister – Sweet and funny, hope Justin lets him get a word in edgeways.
Camilla Dallerup – Seems friendly and genuine, brings a positive energy to the group.
George Hamilton – A legend!
Gino D’Acampo – Did well in the first tasks, could be a big personality in camp.
Jimmy White – A bit quiet so far, we’re wondering what he’ll be like when he comes out of his shell.
Kim Woodburn – Larger than life personality, will either be really funny or really annoying.
Lucy Benjamin – Another quiet one so far.
Sabrina Washington – Haven’t seen much of her yet to form an opinion!
Sam Fox – Great in the first trials, not as annoying as we’d imagined! (Yet)
Stuart Manning – Very sexy, seems like a complete gentleman so far!

It was announced yesterday that Katie Price will also be joining them in the jungle. Let’s hope it doesn’t suddenly become ‘her show’ as I’m really enjoying seeing all the other celebrities so far and feel we’ve seen enough of Miss Price in the headlines lately!

The world has gone crazy after Simon Cowell went against every insult he has thrown at Britain’s most talked about twins, John and Edward (who together are “John and Edward”) by choosing to send the X Factor result to deadlock rather than picking Lucie Jones to stay in the competition causing Welsh Lucie to be sent home!..

I’ve got to admit, this year X factor has been pretty dull – we’ve seen it all before! Lloyd is Euogan Quigg’s double, Lucie Jones was a pretty face and an ok voice just like Diane Vickers (notice how she didn’t wear shoes last week?!)… the only excitement this year is John and Edward! It’s certainly the only reason X Factor has made the headlines and therefore I am definitely backing Simon! He knew that X Factor would go down the pan without the entertaining and crazy kids interrupting the ballads and bad dancing.

All over my facebook and twitter people are screaming that X Factor is a fix, but I think that is utter rubbish; of course Simon is going to do what’s best for the shows ratings and next week we are going to be on the edge of our seats waiting to see how John and Edward fight back! We’re halfway through the competition now, so they do actually have a chance of winning and I truly think they are getting better! Their version of Rock DJ was much better than the performance given a couple of weeks back, when they sung it!

Also left in the competition is all three of Simon’s acts; Rocker Jamie Afro, Sexy Danyl and Olly with his amazing dance moves.

Danni only has one act remaining, the annoying Stacey Solomon who can’t speak properly – let alone sing.

Cheryl is left with Lloyd who doesn’t sing too great but is too cute for words and Joe, the dark horse whose voice is fantastic but is so stiff on stage it’s almost painful to watch.

Jedward are Louis Walsh’s only act left.

What we need to remember is X Factor is not just a singing competition but an entertainment show shown on a Saturday night on ITV, I would much rather have a giggle at John and Edward than scratch my head wondering if Jamie Afro’s song choice was wise, seeing as I don’t recognise it in the slightest. But I’ll leave you with Simon’s wise words: “I don’t know why everyone is attacking me for Lucie leaving, if they liked her so much they should have voted for her!”
