It is the first time in the company’s history that a limited edition BlackBerry smartphone has been designed. Each of the handsets – numbered from one to ten – will go on sale at Selfridges’ flagship London store today priced at £1000.

The design sees the BlackBerry® Bold™ smartphone re-created with a leather back-plate in the iconic Selfridges pantone 109 yellow colour and redesigned number keys on the face of the device. The ten handsets also come with exclusive VIP support.

BlackBerry joins designers such as Jimmy Choo, Lulu Guinness, Mulberry, Paul Smith, Levi’s, Ralph Lauren, Smythson, Marc Jacobs and Giles Deacon, who have all collaborated with Selfridges to celebrate the centenary.

The Green Glow Brick is a Fun Alternative Lighting Idea!

August 16, 2008

Glow-in-the-dark pigment trapped inside a real light bulb (just like the ones you have at home). Then the light bulb is encased in a solid block of Acrylic resin.
The mysterious optical effect is caused by light diffracting in the tiny space between the glass of the light bulb and the resin, the space forms when the resin shrinks by a tiny amount during the production possess. The polished surface gives a jewel like quality to the object.
In a darkened room or at night the Glow Brick comes to life with a tranquil and subtle glow emanating from the pigment inside the light bulb.
Dimensions: 85 X 85 X 105mm
The technical term for glow-in-the-dark is “photoluminescence” this is a process in which energy absorbed by a substance is released relatively slowly in the form of light. No mains power or batteries are required.

We love new and exciting lighting ideas and when we first saw the glow brick we fell madly in love! It is so modern and slick that it would be an added design element to any house and a great alternative/supplement to standard lighting ideas. Plus of course, it doesn’t cost anything to run! It glows a fantastic eerie green colour at night. Also available in blue this really is the perfect gadget for anyone into design or eco friendly products! Priced at just £15.95 from BigGreenSmile it won’t break the bank either.

The Sun Jar – Great Garden Lighting Gadget

April 15, 2008

sunjar.jpg
Made with a traditional Mason jar and high tech energy efficient lighting! Captured inside the jar are a highly efficient solar cell, rechargeable battery and low energy LED lamps. When the jar is placed in sunlight the solar cell creates an electrical current that charges the battery over a few hours. This energy is then used at night to power the three LED lamps inside the jar.

The light is diffused by the frosted jar and give the appearance of sunlight emitting from the (warm coloured LED lights are used to give a more natural and warm light). You may have noticed that there is no switch on the sun jar – in fact there are no visible controls at all – there is a clever light sensor inside that automatically activates the lights when it gets dark or lights are turned out!* Mason Jars are not only beautiful but by their very nature they are completely water tight – so the Sun Jar can happily be left outside in any weather conditions. A perfect garden light or night light for a kids bedroom. *there is an override switch inside the lid to turn off the light at night and conserve battery life.

Sun Jars need DIRECT sunshine to work!Leave the Sun Jar outside or in a sunny window in DIRECT sunlight for several hours to charge,
(electric light indoors is not bright enough!).

What Girlie Gossip Thought

We will be looking at garden lighting idea’s over the next few months and this fantastic Sun Jar is one of the most fun idea’s we have come accross. They are waterproof so you can leave them outside in your garden and when the sun goes down the will give off a nice soft glow. This would be perfect for a cool lighting effect or just an alternative to a candle to go on your garden table. They do work best with nice bright sunlight obviously, but we left ours out on a relatively cloudy day and it did still produce a glow.

It would definately be an ideal lighting soloution for those summer months and this fun energy efficient sun jar is great for the environment!

Available from Suck UK

There is also a Blue version (Moon Jar) of this available now, so make sure you check that out for a different colour lighting effect!
