Onesie fine day at Drayton Manor Theme Park as Guinness World Record is smashed!

April 22, 2013

Onesie World Record Drayton Manor

Hundreds of people wearing the latest fashion must-have, the onesie, gathered at Drayton Manor Theme Park in Tamworth today to help set a new Guinness World Record. Girlie Gossip was there and can confirm that the event was complete onesie madness and loads of fun!

A fantastic 700 people gathered at the park’s central triangle at midday, smashing the record for the largest gathering of people wearing one piece pyjamas, which previously stood at 622. The park is confident it now holds the new world record although the attempt will be authenticated by Guinness World Records before being made official.

After setting the new world record, the participants spent the day enjoying the thrills and spills the theme park has to offer, which includes the fear-inducing stand up drop tower, Apocalypse, voted UK’s scariest ride by channel five’s The Gadget Show, Europe’s only stand up rollercoaster, Shockwave, and the skin-soaking reverse-drop water coaster, Stormforce 10.

Visitors as old as 60 turned up to take part in the event as well as participants as young as 12 months joining in before heading in onesie direction towards the park’s Thomas Land™, which is a must-see attraction for fans of the little blue engine and his friends. It’s celebrating its fifth anniversary this year and a new Thomas & Friends™ ride will be unveiled in the summer to mark the occasion.

Colin Bryan, the park’s managing director, said: “The atmosphere today has been electric and the glorious sunny weather has helped keep spirits up and has no doubt added to the fantastic turnout.

“We pride ourselves on offering a value for money day out for the whole family, so we wanted to create something people of all ages could come and take part in.

“The onesie craze has really taken off lately and the one-piece suits have fast become the item to be seen in so it seemed an ideal way to get everyone involved and it’s absolutely incredible that we’ve broken the world record.”

For visitors travelling from further afield or simply looking to turn a day trip into an overnight stay, there’s also the luxurious four-star Drayton Manor Hotel. It has 150 bedrooms, including 15 Thomas & Friends themed family rooms, each with a unique hand-painted scene on the wall and ceiling, themed bunk beds, and train track patterned carpets in the corridors leading to each room. For anyone wishing to purchase tickets on the day at the gate, prices are £36 for adults (12+) and £27 for children and concessions (Grandees and Students), with a family pass for four costing £108.

Colin Bryan, managing director at Drayton Manor, said: “There are many exciting things happening this year at the park that are not to be missed. It is the 5th anniversary of Thomas Land, there is a new ride opening in the summer and the brilliant ‘Fish Story’ will be showing in our 4D cinema.

We are proud of our heritage here at Drayton Manor. We are still family owned so we understand what our visitors want to ensure they have a fun filled day out that everyone can enjoy. The countdown to our 63rd exciting season has begun!
