Aren’t you worried he will turn out gay?

GAY PRIDE MONTH

June is gay pride months, so I wanted to take this opportunity to write about it. More specifically, about the fact that even though we are in 2017, people still show hate towards those who live their lives any different to the “norm”.

Just recently, I uploaded a photo of my 5-year-old son wearing my make up. We had been enjoying a pamper evening with his older sister and after seeing her makeup, he asked if he could have some too.

I didn’t give it a second thought. I added a bit of eyeshadow to his eyes and some lipstick on his lips. Connor being only 5 doesn’t understand that society thinks only girls should wear makeup and he also loves to dress up in his sister dresses and high heels.

Anyway, after uploading this image I received a message from someone I know through work saying. “Aren’t you worried he will turn out gay?” I couldn’t believe people still think like that. My response was simple, “he can be whatever he wants to be!”

You have to love the way kids look at the world. They don’t automatically see gender, race or religion. They see love, kindness, and affection. It’s such a shame that some of us grow up to develop such a hateful attitude in life.

I’m not saying that just because my son likes to dress up he is going to be gay or transgender.

He is far too young to understand what he wants to be in life in my opinion. What I am trying to say, is that no matter who he grows up to be, we will support him.

My question is, why aren’t all parents like this? Why are people still having to hide who they really are from the people who are meant to care for them? People are ending their lives because of the shame they feel from being brainwashed into thinking what they are feeling is wrong!

Love is love and should be celebrated 💖
