Looking for somewhere to take the kids during the summer holidays? We popped over to Longleat for the day to check out their new 2012 attractions and had a fantastic time. Read all about it after the jump!
Longleat Safari & Adventure Park has been one of the UK’s best-loved attractions for over 60 years. It features an extensive Safari Park, is home to BBC Animal Park and CBBC Roar and also has over 15 fabulous attractions, including the new multi million pound Jungle Kingdom and Longleat House, one of the most stunning stately homes in Britain. The UK’s no. 1 Safari Park first opened its gates to the public in April 1966; the first of its kind outside Africa. It was the beginning of a revolution in zoological collections that has spread all over the globe.
New for 2011 are a number of fantastic adventures, but one of our favourites just has to be Jungle Kingdom!
The new multi-million pound attraction is now open and it’s time for you to explore… Meerkats run around your feet, lorikeets land on your hand and monkeys swing down from their temple and climb all around you. Set sail on a sea lion escorted Jungle Cruise adventure or board the thrilling Jungle Express. It’s the adventure of a lifetime!
There are various different ‘zones’ to explore, including the amazing ‘Monkey Temple’ where you can get up close and personal with some tiny little monkeys. They are very cute and very active, running around and swinging from ropes above your head! The kids will love it!
Also new for 2011 is the ‘Hunters of the Sky’ show
The spectacular 30-minute shows will be held up to 3 times a day and feature more than 10 species of birds of prey from around the world demonstrating their extraordinary aerial prowess in a purpose-built 500-seater outdoor arena.
Experience the thrill as a falcon stoops at over 100 miles an hour, feel a vulture’s wings swoop just above your head, marvel at a carousel of kites and witness the sheer spectacle of the majestic eagle taking flight.
As well as providing an unforgettable thrill for the whole family, the shows also offer a fascinating insight into some of the planet’s most incredible hunters and highlights the vital need to help conserve them in the wild.
Other highlights include the Adventure Castle – an amazing kid’s adventure playground and castle, the Longleat Hedge Maze – one of the world’s longest labyrinths, new for this year – deer feeding at Deer Valley and much much more.
Our kids absolutely LOVE the play park at Longleat, which in our opinion is worth the entry fee alone! It is HUGE and keeps the kids happy and entertained for ages, with plenty of places for parents to sit and enjoy a drink and relax whilst the kids play safely.
Highly recommended by Girlie Gossip as a fab day out, especially perfect for the summer holiday’s, so get over there and check it out for yourselves! More info, directions and everything you need to know about making your way around Longleat can be found here: http://www.longleat.co.uk/
