The Neverending Story DVD Competition!

At long last, it’s here – one of the definitive children’s fantasy films ever made is set for UK Region 2 DVD release courtesy of Warner Home Video. Available to own from 18 August 2008, THE NEVERENDING STORY captured the hearts of young and old alike when it was first released in 1984, and now it can be yours to own on DVD to watch time and time again.

Transporting you into a fantasy world that defies everything you’ve ever imagined, THE NEVERENDING STORY allows the viewer to enter a storybook world where its inhabitants exist as long as you continue to believe they exist. Promoting the premise of never giving up in the face of adversity, its enduring appeal is undisputed and still touches the hearts of those who experienced the magic the first time round. Now, thanks to the imminent release of the UK Region 2 DVD, a whole new generation can be introduced to this captivating film.

Directed by Wolfgang Petersen (Poseidon, The Perfect Storm, Air Force One) and starring Alan Oppenheimer , Barret Oliver and Noah Hathaway, THE NEVERENDING STORY features a soundtrack by Giorgio Moroder and the unforgettable title song sung by UK singer/songwriter Limahl, lead singer of 80s pop band Kajagoogoo.

So get ready to relive the journey of a lifetime with Bastian, Falcor the luck dragon, Rock Biter the tricycle-riding giant and the host of other incredible characters – racing snails, giant wolves, mushroom creatures and giant talking turtles to name but a few – through the mythical land of Fantasia, in the ultimate tale of courage in the face of adversity.

Bastian, a lonely schoolboy, alienated from his father and bullied by his classmates, retreats to an attic where he becomes engrossed in a book entitled “The Neverending Story.” It is the tale of a magical kingdom named, appropriately, Fantasia, since it is a world born of human fantasies. Fantasia is being destroyed by great storms of Nothingness as mankind loses faith in the powers of imagination and fantasies die. Dangerously ill herself, Fantasia’s youthful empress sends a handsome warrior on a quest to find a cure for both her and her kingdom. After encounters with flying dragons, swamp monsters and a vast assortment of other fantastic creatures, the young hero discovers that only a human boy can save Fantasia, at which point Bastian is drawn, literally, into the pages of the story.
