With summer just within reach and the start of the warmer weather on its way, we have put together our top five simple tips for ways to save energy, money and help the environment at the same time. Feel free to add your own top tips in our comments section below!
1 – The sun is our biggest friend right now with regards to saving energy. Solar Panels are getting cheaper and easier to have installed and they can make a real difference in the way you live and the amount of money you save in the long run.
2 – Water saving during summer months is very important. Remember not to waste water unnecessarily. Rain catchers can make a great decorative garden feature and also collect precious droplets of water and you can buy or cheaply make your own water butt which are a great resource to have on hand.
3 – Grow your own! We are really into growing our own foods at the moment. Seeds are cheap to buy and you can reduce the cost of your household bills by growing fruit and veg for your family. Look out for our upcoming ‘Small Gardens’ article which shows how cheap and easy this is to do, even in the smallest of surroundings!
4 – Make your own compost bin. A compost bin is very easy to construct and house in even the smallest of gardens. As long as it is properly lined to keep out vermin it is a great way of getting rid of unwanted food waste and using it for the further development of your own garden and the plants within it!
5 – Clothing can also be recycled. We have seen some great tutorials online recently on the ‘up-cycling’ trend. This is a fantastic idea and just goes to show that pretty much anything can be re-used if you use a bit of imagination. We have seen old shirts and sweaters made in to cushion covers and patchwork quilts. Clever stuff!
We hope these few tips have inspired you in some way, keep checking back for more details on all of the topics covered.
