True Blood – The New Vampire Series with BITE!

Given that the gripping season finale of True Blood has just recently aired, we decided it was about time we showed our love for this exciting new show that has taken the vampire genre to dizzying new heights by giving Girlie Gossip readers the low-down on it, and why it is quite literally addictive viewing!…

First off, let us just start by saying that True Blood is not your average Vampire TV series. Get all pre conceptions out of your head before watching, because this show blows all the theories and ‘rules’ you thought you knew right out of the water.

Thanks to a Japanese scientist’s invention of synthetic blood, vampires have progressed from legendary monsters to fellow citizens overnight. And while humans have been safely removed from the menu, many remain apprehensive about these creatures “coming out of the coffin.” Religious leaders and government officials around the world have chosen their sides, but in the small Louisiana town of Bon Temps, the jury is still out.

Local waitress Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin), however, knows how it feels to be an outcast. “Cursed” with the ability to listen in on people’s thoughts, she’s also open-minded about the integration of vampires — particularly when it comes to Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer), a handsome 173-year-old living up the road. But as Sookie is drawn into a series of mysteries surrounding Bill’s arrival in Bon Temps, that tolerance will be put to the test.

The series begins slowly, but take our advice and don’t give up on it as things soon get a whole lot more interesting! Mixing the Vampire genre with other mysteries and legends such as shape shifters, faith healers and psychic powers it is a brash, often crude yet utterly compelling look into all aspects of the paranormal in an everyday rural town.

Anna Paquin is constantly giving her character Sookie Stackhouse new and exciting layers whilst Stephen Moyer brings a certain charisma and an age old charm to vampire ‘Bill’. Sam Trammell provides some much appreciated eye candy whilst gradually becoming one of the most intriguing and loveable characters the series has given birth to and Rutina Wesley is amazing as Tara, the feisty foul mouthed waitress who dares to speak her mind, no matter what the situation.

We must also mention the brilliant Ryan Kwanten (Yes, Vinny from Home & Away) who steals some of the shows most…. ‘Intimate’ scenes and Nelsan Ellis as Lafayette who’s no nonsense attitude provides constant entertainment throughout.

All in all, there’s honestly not a bad character in the whole series, each one is proving to be interesting and appealing in their own way, and we can’t wait to see them developed further in True Blood Series 2.
