Now more than ever self-love is so important. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health. Learning to love yourself, like really love yourself isn’t as easy as it sounds. I’ve had two children and I’m currently pregnant with my 3rd. I have stretch marks, my hair is in a permanent mum bun and I can’t remember the last time I shaved my legs.

However, I have learnt to embrace what others may see as flaws and I love myself for who I am. Don’t get me wrong, this didn’t happen overnight. It takes time to change your mindset and think positively about yourself. I don’t claim to be an expert in self-love, but below are a few things that have worked for me and I really hope they work for you too.

Once you have mastered the art of self-love, others will notice the difference in you too. Your confidence will shine through so you won’t even need those fancy filters when joining up to dating websites.

Do What You Love

Take some time for you and do what you enjoy. I’m absolutely obsessed with Halloween, so this year I decided to get my decorations down a lot earlier than I normally would. I really enjoyed decorating my living room and placing all my favourite things around me. Now in the evening, I look around my cosy room with the candles lit, the autumn colours, the sparkly decorations and it makes me feel so relaxed. My friends think I’m a tad crazy for having everything out this early, But it makes me feel happy! So do what makes you happy!

Practice Gratitude

Sit down and write a list of all the things you’re grateful for. Down to the smallest things, you will be so surprised at how many good things you have in your life. Reflect on your day/week and be thankful for all the positives. Even if all you did today was have a shower, be thankful you have hot running water. This kind of gratitude changes your mindset and makes you think of all the things you DO have and not all the things you don’t have.

Stay Hydrated & Eat Healthily

Staying hydrated and eating healthily will not only benefit your skin but your mental health with thank you too. We are what we eat after all and your food can really affect your mood! Stock up on fruits and veg and scrap the processed foods. Give it a couple of weeks, and you will notice a natural glow in your skin and you will also feel more motivated too!
