New York is one of the most popular tourist destinations on earth. Many films and TV shows have been filmed there over the years. As its name suggests, this park is slap bang in the middle of New York and offers solitude from the concrete walls of some of the world’s most iconic buildings. The park is over 843 acres and houses a zoo featuring many amazing creatures from around the world. Because of its size the Zoo is easily completed in 2 hours and even offers a petting zoo for younger children. Throughout the park are statues from various works of art and literature, the most popular being the Alice in Wonderland ones. You can take a boat ride in the park or simply stop and let the world go by. Many New Yorkers come here to relax, unwind and get some exercise, so it is a great way to mix with the locals away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

One of the best ways to experience the joys of New York is to take a river cruise. The Circle line offers many different options to cater to every type of visitor. The fastest version is in a speed boat that takes around 30 minutes and takes in the Statue of Liberty, before speeding you into the harbour. This obviously isn’t for everyone, and you can get very wet. Alternatively the Circle line also offer some more relaxing ways to take in the cities beauty, the longest of which lasts around 3 hours and goes around the whole of Manhattan. If you are on a tight budget, another great option is to take on the Staten Island ferry. You will have no doubt seen this boat in many films and TV shows over the years. This is essentially the boat that commuters take from Battery Park to Staten Island, and its 6 mile journey is completely free. Just bear in mind that this is a commuter journey and not a cruise, so you will have to make out your landmarks as you go.
Possibly one of New Yorks best-known tourist hot spots, Times Square is visited by millions of people each year and for good reason. You can take in a Broadway show or have some food at some of the most interesting and diverse eateries in the world. The whole area is much more impressive at night when all the lights come on. You may be surprised to know that many of the larger stores have amazing attractions inside their own buildings. Toys R Us, for example, have their own big wheel inside.
